Ah, Miami. The top winter sun destination and one of the biggest party hotspots in the country. Is there any better place to be during the holiday season? While we are known for loving the good life, the calendar will be quieter than in past years.

While there are COVID cancellations this year, there are still plenty of opportunities to get into the holiday spirit. When you are ready to pull out that Christmas sweater and start celebrating, we’ve got you covered.

Here is a look at the best Miami 2020 holiday celebrations that are still going strong (along with a rundown of what has been canceled).

Please keep in mind these details are subject to change. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and face coverings may be required. Be sure to check local health officials’ safety regulations and each establishment’s website for updated information before making final plans.

Miami 2020 Holiday Events: COVID-19 Cancelations

Before we start planning your Miami Christmas celebrations, let’s take a quick look at the events that won’t be happening this year. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the following Miami holiday events are canceled:

  • Santa’s Enchanted Forest

  • Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens NightGarden Magical Light Spectacular
  • Art Basel Miami Beach

Okay, now that we’ve got that sad list of events out of the way, let’s look at a few places to celebrate the holidays in Miami.

Outdoor Miami Christmas Events & Holiday Celebrations

Zoo Lights Miami

One of my annual favorite holiday events in Miami is the dazzling tree light displays at Zoo Lights Miami.

It’s a kid-friendly holiday event so bring the little ones along for arts and crafts projects. There are hot chocolate and cookies, riverboat rides with snowmen, letters to Santa, and, of course, an appearance by the jolly fat man himself.

There is a range of themed nights from ugly sweaters and silly onesie nights to elf look-alike contents, so be sure to browse the calendar before you go.

  • Dates: The festival runs at the zoo on select nights from November 27 – December 27, 2020, 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Nutcracker in the Park

What is better than getting to see a traditional performance of The Nutcracker before Christmas? How about a socially distanced performance outside? For ballet lovers looking for a safe Miami holiday event, look no further.

You can watch a live performance of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker (from a pod with four people) as MCB dancers bring the show to life on stage.

Running in Downtown Doral Park, this is sure to be a magical event for all ages. Buy your tickets from the Miami City Ballet online so you can walk directly to your cozy lawn pod without waiting in line.

Who says the holidays are all about Christmas trees and houses glowing with holiday lights? In Miami, we like to mix things up. Just check out the nightly Light Up the Night holiday fountain show at City Place Doral to see what I mean.

Enchanted Place of North Miami

Some of my favorite Christmas memories as a kid aren’t from expensive gifts or going to big events. It was all about the simple joy of wandering the streets and soaking in the best Christmas lights in Miami. One of the best spots to get started is at Enchanted Place of North Miami (1600 NE 137th Terrace in North Miami).

Every year, the neighborhood residents collaborate to light up the block with thousand of bright lights hugging what seems like every tree branch creating a festive holiday tree canopy.

The elaborate display is lit up each night from mid-December through Christmas Eve, 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.

If you are looking for a safe way to do your Christmas lights tour in Miami, get down here. You can check out the details on their Facebook page.
